Microsoft Tests Apple and Google Sign-In for Edge on Android

Microsoft is testing sign-in support for both Apple and Google accounts inside its Edge browser for Android, according to flags discovered in the app’s experimental Canary build.

The options surfaced June 23 when X user @Leopeva64 spotted two new flags inside Edge Canary — the browser’s early-stage testing channel — labeled “Mobile Sign in with Apple” and “Mobile Sign in with Google.”

Both flags carry descriptions indicating the respective options would appear on Edge’s sign-in screen. That said, neither is functional yet.

What Microsoft Has Publicly Said

Microsoft’s official Edge roadmap lists Google Account Sign-In only for the desktop version of the browser, with a scheduled rollout in July 2026. The roadmap makes no mention of Android support or Apple account integration.

That gap between the roadmap and what testers are finding in Canary flags raises questions about Microsoft’s broader sign-in strategy.

PiunikaWeb independently confirmed both flags exist in Edge Canary and separately verified the Google account sign-in feature works on desktop when the corresponding flag is enabled.

What the Flags Suggest

The simultaneous appearance of Apple and Google sign-in flags for Android points to Microsoft expanding access beyond its own Microsoft Account system.

By allowing users to authenticate with credentials they already use daily — Google on Android devices, Apple IDs carried by iPhone users who also own Android hardware — Microsoft would lower the friction for people considering a switch to Edge.

Still, a flag appearing in a Canary build does not guarantee the feature reaches a public release. Microsoft routinely tests options in Canary that never advance further.

Timing Remains Unclear

Because neither Apple account sign-in nor Android support appears anywhere in Microsoft’s published roadmap, no release timeline exists for either option.

Microsoft has not issued a public statement on the Android flags or on any planned expansion of its sign-in options beyond what the roadmap describes.

Edge Canary is Microsoft’s most experimental browser channel, used to surface features that may be weeks, months, or never away from a stable release.

Microsoft Edge competes directly with Google Chrome, which commands roughly 66% of the global browser market according to StatCounter, and with Apple’s Safari, which holds approximately 18%.
