Perplexity Releases Comet Browser Update for iOS, Fixing Crashes and Overhauling iPad Tab Management
Perplexity has released version 26.24.0 of its Comet Browser for iOS and iPadOS, addressing two crash triggers, patching sign-in failures, and rebuilding Tab Management for iPad users.
The update resolves crashes that occurred when users closed all open tabs at once or opened Settings during initial setup — two bugs that drew consistent user complaints since the browser’s launch.
Sign-In and Sync Fixes
The update also repairs broken OAuth redirects, the authentication handoff process websites use to verify a user’s identity without sharing passwords directly.
A resized QR code scanner for the “Add Device” sync setup now fits correctly in landscape orientation, a layout that the previous version clipped.
iPad Tab Overhaul
iPad users receive the most substantial changes in this release.
Perplexity rebuilt several tab behaviors, including the ability to close all tabs to the right of the active tab, improved attachment of the Address Bar — known as the omnibox — to its tab, and a scrolling fix that reliably brings the active tab into view.
Download and Favicon Changes
Download banners now accommodate longer file names without cutting them off mid-text, a practical fix for users downloading files whose names differ only at the end.
A fix targeting favicons — the small icons websites display in browser tabs — in Incognito mode appears in the changelog. That said, testing on the current release showed Incognito mode still does not display correct favicons for all sites, suggesting the fix may be incomplete.
Favicons render correctly in standard browsing mode.
Perplexity also updated the in-app privacy disclosure text, though the company did not detail what changed in the language.
Background
Perplexity launched Comet in May 2025 as an AI-native browser Built Around its search assistant, positioning it against established mobile browsers including Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome.
The app is available on the Apple App Store for devices running iOS and iPadOS.
