Microsoft Edge for Android gets a sleek upgrade for ‘Send to self’ notifications
Microsoft is refining how Edge for Android handles cross-device tab sharing, replacing a custom pop-up with native Android system notifications.
What’s Changing
The update, spotted by browser researcher Leopeva64 on X, appears in the latest Edge Canary build — the experimental, early-access version of the browser. Previously, sending a webpage from a PC to an Android phone triggered a custom pop-up at the bottom of the screen. The new approach uses a standard Android system notification at the top of the display instead.
The updated notification includes a small dropdown arrow that expands additional details about the shared link. A bell icon sits in the corner, and tapping the notification opens the shared page directly in Edge.
How It Behaves in Practice
The system-level notification appears designed for moments when the browser is not actively open. If Edge is already running in the foreground, the older bottom prompt still appears. That distinction makes the change a practical multitasking improvement rather than a complete interface overhaul.
Availability Is Limited for Now
The feature has not rolled out broadly. The author was unable to reproduce the new notification style in their own Canary testing, which suggests Microsoft is running a limited A/B test — a method of trialing a feature with only a portion of users — or a gradual server-side rollout.
The change is consistent with Microsoft’s broader push to make Edge on Android feel like a full cross-device browser rather than a scaled-down mobile version. Features tested in Canary typically move to the Beta and Stable channels over time.
