Brave is considering a standalone ‘Origin’ app for Android and a black icon option

The Brave development team is exploring whether to build a dedicated Android App for Brave Origin, its privacy-focused browser tier. A team member confirmed they are actively weighing the idea and seeking user feedback through the official announcement thread.

What Is Brave Origin?

On Android, Origin currently exists only as a paid upgrade within the standard Brave Browser. Users pay a $59.99 fee and manually toggle off features such as Leo AI, Brave Rewards, and the built-in VPN. Desktop users already have more flexibility. They can either download a completely separate Origin browser or use the same upgrade method available on mobile.

Android users currently have no equivalent standalone option.

Community Pushing for Change

A segment of Android users is pushing for a dedicated app. Whether Brave moves forward depends largely on how much demand the team sees from its community.

A separate but related request has also gained traction. Users want the ability to swap the standard orange lion logo for Origin’s black icon on their home screens. A Brave support representative confirmed that request was passed along to the development team.

Broader Context

Brave is reportedly seeing record growth in its user base and has shown a willingness to act on user feedback. The team is also developing a feature called Compact mode, designed to reclaim screen real estate — a natural complement to Origin’s stripped-down approach.

Origin currently syncs bookmarks and history across devices using a standard QR code method. The developers have indicated account-based syncing is in the works for a future update.
