How to Remove the Ask Gemini Option From Google Chrome’s Right-Click Menu
Google embedded an “Ask Gemini” shortcut near the top of Chrome’s context menu — the list that appears whenever a user right-clicks anywhere on a webpage.
The option sits prominently in the menu by default, and no standard Chrome settings page offers a toggle to remove it.
Instead, Google buried the control inside Chrome’s experimental flags page, a hidden section of the browser designed for testing features not yet in mainstream release.
How to Disable It
Open a new tab and type `chrome://flags/#glic` into the address bar, then press Enter.
Chrome loads a page labeled “Experiments” and automatically scrolls to a highlighted entry called Glic — the internal name for the feature that powers the Gemini shortcut on Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android.
Ignore the related entries below it, such as “Glic actor” and “Glic experimental triggering.” Those controls do not need adjustment.
Click the dropdown menu on the right side of the Glic row. It reads “Default” out of the box.
Select Disabled from the list. The dropdown changes color to confirm the modification.
A banner appears at the bottom of the screen reading: “Your changes will take effect the next time you relaunch Chrome.”
Click the blue Relaunch button in the bottom-right corner.
Chrome closes all open windows and immediately reopens them. Save any unsaved form data in other tabs before clicking relaunch — though Chrome typically restores open tabs to their previous state.
What Changes After Restart
After the browser restarts, right-click anywhere on a blank area of a webpage. The blue-tinted Ask Gemini entry no longer appears in the menu.
To restore it, return to `chrome://flags/#glic` and set the Glic dropdown back to Default, then relaunch the browser again.
Google has been expanding Gemini’s presence across its products throughout 2025, integrating the AI assistant — its large language model designed to answer questions and generate content — into Search, Gmail, Docs, and Android.
